Prof. Dr. Alper Sarıoğlan

ITU, Department of Chemical Engineering

Prof.Dr. Alper SARIOĞLAN graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Chemical Engineering as a Chemical Engineer. He received his Master's and Doctorate degrees at Istanbul Technical University, Department of Chemical Engineering. Between 1999 and 2020, he has worked at Energy Institute of the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) Marmara Research Center. He took position there as Chief Senior Researcher and was responsible for the Energy Conversion Technologies Research Group. During his career at TUBITAK, he has one-year research experience abroad at CNRS-IRC Catalyst Research Institute (Lyon/France). He gained expertise at CNRS IRC on heterogeneous catalysis technology. In his long term professional career at TUBITAK, he has improved his knowledge on gas technologies, specifically hydrogen. His expertise has been extended to thermochemical conversion processes, value added chemicals from synthesis gas, syngas cleaning technologies, alternative fuel technologies and catalytic processes for advanced CO2 utilization. With his background on hydrogen, he has been nominated as a National Representative for Hydrogen Executive Committee on behalf of Türkiye at International Energy Agency in between 2007 and 2013. He has been the principal investigator of various large scale national and international projects during his career at TUBITAK. European Commission FP7-TYGRE "High Value Added Materials from Waste Tire Gasification Residual", EC FP7-BRISK "European Research Infrastructure for Thermochemical Biomass Conversion Technologies" and “Development of National Flue Gas Desulfurization Technologies” were some of his important project management experiences. In 2020, he started working as academy personnel at Istanbul Technical University (ITU). He has been affiliated researcher at ITU Synthetic Fuels and Chemicals Technology Center as well. He is the author of 25 publications and chapters in 3 books in the international citation index. It has 3 internationally granted patents.
